When I was a kid, Beverly Cleary was one of my favorite authors. I read so many of her books. Ramona was my favorite character but, I read everything I could get my hands on that was written by Beverly Cleary. My daughter is still a little young for most of it but, I so look forward to the day when I can introduce her to this love of mine.
I recently was able to introduce her to Beverly Cleary sooner than I thought, thanks to Scholastic and their amazing DVDs.
Though I loved Ramona dearly, Runaway Ralph was always one of my favorite books. Before it, I adored The Mouse and The Motorcycle. I remember these books so fondly and I know many of you do as well. Scholastic has become one of my absolute favorite sources of DVDs for my kids and when I was sent the Runaway Ralph DVD to check out, I was over the moon. It's the same beloved tale with Scholastic's amazing touch.
Perfect for early readers, ages 3 to 8, the DVD features an enhanced read-along function and Talk about the Story questions to enhance early literacy skills. The DVD also includes the bonus story Commander Toad in Space, based on the book by Jane Yolen. Whether you loved Beverly Cleary as a child or not, you and your children can rediscover her and her amazing stories with this new DVD from Scholastic. Just in time for the Ramona feature film that I know I'm super excited about!
One of the greatest things about Scholastic DVDs is the read-along function that they all have lets kids be read a story while living in an age where everything is watched on tv. My kids have never cared what is being read to them. They just want to be read to. They like looking at the pictures in a book and I love seeing their eyes light up as the story tells what the picture shows. The fantastic part about Scholastic DVDs is that those amazing pictures from the wonderful stories come alive on the screen while the words on the bottom of the screen lead them through the story. Even if it's on a subconscious level, even if your child can't read yet, they are learning that those words are the story. I am certain that things like this have absolutely helped my son on his path to being a beginning reader.
