I'd like to think that I'm pretty "crafty" but, a fashionista, I am not. When it comes to designing clothing and accessories, my fashion prowess doesn't extend beyond little girl dresses and hair bows. I had never really given a lot of thought to being able to design things for myself. Not many of us have that kind of talent. Then I came across a website that not only sells the materials you need to design your own clothing and accessories, they also arm you with the tutorials you need to be successful at it!
New York Design Shop is for the fashion designer in all of us. Whether you are a pro or a bumbling fashion fool like me, this is the site for you. Let me first say that I am still blown away at the endless possibilities that exist when you browse the clothing, accessories and DIY materials at New York Design Shop. From tshirts to leggings, gloves to scarves, and every embellishment you could possibly think of, this site has it all.
Not a designer? No idea where you'd begin? No worries. Explore the DIY tutorials and videos and see what strikes your fancy. Get an idea from a tutorial or get inspired from browsing the embellishments. Then, take your idea and run with it.
How it works: New York Design Shop sent me one of their unbelievably soft v-neck tees and some of the amazing silk rosette strips. I browsed through their tutorials until I saw something similar to what I wanted to do with my materials. After hand stitching the rosettes to the tee, I'm left with an amazing creation that looks like I paid big bucks at a designer store and looks almost exactly like the tutorial!
Why it's awesome: You can make clothing and accessories that look like department store designer clothing for so much less than you'd pay in the store. I think that anyone who needs a gift for a preteen or teen girl will score big with items from New York Design Shop. I took my leftover rosettes and sewed them to a tee for one of my neices. She absolutely flipped over it, as did her friends. Give the items as a gift for the girl to make herself and get her creative juices flowing or make it yourself and give the finished product as an amazing present!

When I was a kid, Beverly Cleary was one of my favorite authors. I read so many of her books. Ramona was my favorite character but, I read everything I could get my hands on that was written by Beverly Cleary. My daughter is still a little young for most of it but, I so look forward to the day when I can introduce her to this love of mine.
I recently was able to introduce her to Beverly Cleary sooner than I thought, thanks to Scholastic and their amazing DVDs.
Though I loved Ramona dearly, Runaway Ralph was always one of my favorite books. Before it, I adored The Mouse and The Motorcycle. I remember these books so fondly and I know many of you do as well. Scholastic has become one of my absolute favorite sources of DVDs for my kids and when I was sent the Runaway Ralph DVD to check out, I was over the moon. It's the same beloved tale with Scholastic's amazing touch.
Perfect for early readers, ages 3 to 8, the DVD features an enhanced read-along function and Talk about the Story questions to enhance early literacy skills. The DVD also includes the bonus story Commander Toad in Space, based on the book by Jane Yolen. Whether you loved Beverly Cleary as a child or not, you and your children can rediscover her and her amazing stories with this new DVD from Scholastic. Just in time for the Ramona feature film that I know I'm super excited about!
One of the greatest things about Scholastic DVDs is the read-along function that they all have lets kids be read a story while living in an age where everything is watched on tv. My kids have never cared what is being read to them. They just want to be read to. They like looking at the pictures in a book and I love seeing their eyes light up as the story tells what the picture shows. The fantastic part about Scholastic DVDs is that those amazing pictures from the wonderful stories come alive on the screen while the words on the bottom of the screen lead them through the story. Even if it's on a subconscious level, even if your child can't read yet, they are learning that those words are the story. I am certain that things like this have absolutely helped my son on his path to being a beginning reader.
What else is new from Scholastic Storybook Tresures? Give your child more of their unbelievable library with HE’S GOT THE WHOLE WORLD IN HIS HANDS…AND MORE STORIES TO CELEBRATE THE ENVIRONMENT. If there's anything my kids love more than being read to, it's being sung to. This Scholastic DVD has both and they love it. The entire collection of stories on this DVD is full of environmental love for the eco-friendly kids of today. My son, who is growing more eco-conscious all the time, absolutely loves this DVD.
Scholastic Storybook Treasures are definitely beloved in our home. These two DVDs made excellent additions to our ever growing library. Just like the books when I was a child, I know my kids will love these movies for years to come.

My kids have a lot of movies. We don't have cable so, the movies are what they watch for silly entertainment and for educational entertainment.
One of the DVDs they have that I honestly thought was just "silly entertainment" has proven itself to me to be much more than that. Wubbzy is not just an adorable character with silly songs. The other day, my son told my daughter, "Remember what Wubbzy taught us about not giving up?". I was floored. Yes, this loveable character is actually teaching them valuable lessons that they are retaining because of the silly songs. I love it. The newest Wubbzy movie, Escape from Dino Island, was an instant favorite in our house. In this movie, Wubbzy and friends embark on an adventure to Dino Island. My kids laugh, jump around and sing along while learning lessons about honesty, teamwork and friendship. They adore it and so do I.

There are many products out there that make a parent's life easier. Sometimes you find something that you didn't even realize you needed until you use it. The juppy is my new "must have" for all parents.
